Modern Vampire Fiction

The vampire leaned his head down, settled the points of his teeth against her neck, waited. Just as before, the moment stretched out into eternity. The world became surreal, painted in shades of grey and yet more vibrant than anything Two had ever witnessed. She felt a tear grow on a single eyelash, fatten, drop. It hit her face, the warmth of her body fading quickly as it cooled, leaving a track down her cheek. Her heart throbbed. The vampire tore through the flesh of her neck in an instant, seeking the blood forced through her veins by that thudding organ ...

Sex. Drugs. Violence.

Despair. Desire. Revenge.

Love. Faith. Redemption.

The Latest News

August 9th, 2010
It's been quite a while since our last news update, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy! For one thing, we finished the second draft of Blood Hunt, the sequel to The Blood That Bonds. At just over 154,000 words, it's almost twice as long as TBTB, and we're offering fans a chance to enter a contest to get a look at the second draft. Check out the contest page for more details. Additionally, we've decided to offer a print edition of The Blood That Bonds for people who want it. More on that in the coming weeks, but we promise that it will be modestly priced, and that all of the proceeds will go directly towards the "hire an editor for Blood Hunt" fund! Of course, the eBook will remain absolutely free. We're hoping to have the print edition out well before Christmas.

On that note, we're taking down the TBTB audio chapters for a little while, because we're sending TBTB through a final proofreading pass before taking it to print, which means the text may change slightly. The eBook will be updated, and then we're going to re-record all of the audio.

Also, The Blood That Bonds is still doing well over on Smashwords, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, The Apple iBookstore, and Scribd. Supposedly it should be showing up at the Sony eBook Store soon, too. We've had thousands and thousands of downloads at this point, and we're still rocking a 4-star or better rating pretty much everywhere, even on B&N where more than 300 people have rated the book! Not bad. Not bad at all.

We've uploaded the second chapter of The Blood That Bonds in audio book format. You can snag it right here, or from the download page. In this chapter, you get to hear a lot more dialog, including the author trying his hand at speaking like Abraham and Melissa. In other news, we've topped 1000 downloads at Smashwords, and are well over 3000 downloads total for the book. That's just amazing, and we want to thank everyone who's read the book, and especially those who've left comments, positive or negative, via email, or at Barnes & Noble, or elsewhere. We're past the 80,000 word mark on Blood Hunt, which means we're nearing two-thirds done, and the feedback from TBTB fans has really helped us stay motivated!

Wow, it's shaping up to be a great month for The Blood That Bonds. First off, we've posted the first chapter of the book in audio format. You can download it here or from the download page. This is an interesting experiment, because we've never really recorded audio of this type before. Please forgive us if the voice sounds a little strange at times -- it's a learning experience! In addition, we've added some new entries to the praise page, and we're still going strong over at Barnes & Noble. We're up to 97 ratings (4 star average) and 16 reviews! Very exciting. We're going to be posting more chapters of TBTB in the coming weeks (going to try to do at LEAST one a week) until the whole book is up and available. After that's done, we might just hold a contest! Stay tuned.

Thanks to one and all who volunteered to critique The Broken God Machine. We're not looking for any further readers at this time, but don't worry, plenty of stuff is still coming along! We've passed 58,000 words on the second draft of Blood Hunt, the sequel to The Blood That Bonds, which puts us well past the 1/3rd of the way mark. We're anticipating about 130,000 words, which is about 1.5x as long as TBTB. In other news, we've added the latest batch of kind words from our readers to the praise page, and we're now available on Apple's iPad using their iBookstore app, thanks to our friends at Smashwords. Reviews and ratings continue to come in from our listing at Barnes & Noble as well. People seem to genuinely like the story and characters, and are excited about the sequel. Still hoping to find a print publisher for TBTB, but it's a long, slow process of applying and then waiting patiently. As soon as we have any word on that front, you can be sure we'll post it here!

The Blood That Bonds continues to fly off the digital shelves like hotcakes. The book has been downloaded more than 2,500 times, and we've gotten a bunch of new feedback, some of which you can see on the praise page. You can also see several reviews over at our listing on Barnes & Noble, where we're rocking a 4-star rating with 38 votes! We've been looking for agents and/or publishers but haven't had any luck yet. It's a long slog, though, and we're still optimistic! In other Two-related news, work on the second draft of the sequel to TBTB has commenced. We don't have an expected date of publication yet (it depends on a lot of factors), but it's coming! Also, are you interested in reading and critiquing the first draft of another Christopher Buecheler novel: The Broken God Machine? Just send an email via the contact form asking about it.

The Holidays are always so busy, aren't they? Between trips to France and to New York, not to mention finishing a whole new novel (more on that soon!), we haven't had a lot of time for this poor little site. Well, that's all changing now! We've updated the Praise Page with a whole ton of new, kind words. We've also changed the Links Page, on which you'll now find the first official review of The Blood That Bonds! Pretty cool. This month's project: finding new sites that might like to review or talk about the book, and querying some agents to see about print representation. Wish us luck. Don't forget to subscribe to our news feed to get all of our updates delivered right to your reader!

Been a bit since the last update. We were in New York City for a week, which didn't allow for a lot of time for The Blood That Bonds. Now we're back, and getting into things. First off, we've received a nice writeup from our copy editor Lauren at her blog, and we're also now featured at ebook download site obooko. Also, we've removed the forums for now (no activity), and put up a Praise for The Blood That Bonds page featuring some of the excellent feedback we've received. Oh, and we also now have a simple RSS feed you can subscribe to. WOO! More soon!

We're guest blogging over at Reading with a Bite today. The subject? The vampire as modern hero ... taking a look at the evolution over the past few decades of the vampire from creature of pure evil, to sympathetic outcast, to 'bad boy with a heart of gold' and beyond. Check it out, and thanks to Reading with a Bite for the opportunity!

It's been a very busy couple of weeks for The Blood That Bonds. Our book is in the Smashwords premium catalog and has thus been syndicated to Sony and Barnes and Noble. We've also been featured on a few terrific sites -- Sidhe Vicious Reviews, Finding Free eBooks, and All Things Smart and Scary (includes an exclusive excerpt) -- all of which has lead to our first milestone: The Blood That Bonds eBook has now been downloaded over 500 times! That's not even including the "views" numbers on Scribd. Not bad at all, and we've got some more features and the first couple of book reviews coming in the next week or so. Stay tuned.

We've had quite a few downloads of The Blood That Bonds! Looking forward to hearing some feedback. In the meantime, we're working on adding new formats and getting the title listed with more sites. It's currently up on Smashwords, which provides several different formats for various eReaders. Also, we fixed a small bug in the contact form that prevented it from working with Google Chrome.

Yesterday we added The Blood That Bonds to Scribd (see the download page), and today we've been featured on the excellent site "Online Novels" (check out the links page). More formats and news coming in the next day or two.

Welcome to The Blood That Bonds website soft launch ... we've opened the site up, taken off the password protection, and are making a few versions of the eBook available right now, with more formats to come in the next few days. The site might still be a little buggy, though we've done our best to squash anything we've come across. If you run into problems, don't hesitate to contact us about them!
